Q. I just purchased property, why is my name not on the tax bill?
A. Property must be Assessed to the record owner as of January 1st,
transfers completed after January 1st, will be mailed C/O the new
owner.
Q. Who is assessed a Personal Property Tax? (Household furnishings
and effects)
A. The permanent or primary resident is exempt, all others will
receive a Personal Property tax bill, a property that is rented must
have Tenants furniture to be exempt.
Proof of residency: Voter registration, driver's license, census,
IRS Forms.
Q. How did you arrive at the value on the property?
A. Assessment's are based on "Fair Market Value" using the
comparative sales approach of sales as of January 1st, of
each year.
Q. When can I file for an abatement?
A. The deadline for filing an application for abatement is the same
as the payment due date for the actual bill. Please
contact the
Assessors Office for an application.
Q. What is the tax used for?
A. Taxes support the School system,Public Safety, Police and Fire,
Beaches, DPW, and General Government.
Questions concerning Exemptions should be directed to the Assessors
Office.
